Description From the tropical forest of Laos to Zurich, Switzerland: oudh (Aquilaria crassa) was the starting point for Andy Tauer‘s newest release, l’oudh. In Andy Tauer‘s words: “I built a big oudh accord in the fragrance. I used cypriol, castoreum, vetiver oil from Java (because it is so rough and dark), some Mysore sandalwood because it possesses great fixation power. The morel found its place, too. And some cistus and musk.“ How does it smell? Well, in the words of Andy Tauer, “it smells of a thousand things. I detect floral qualities in there. Woody and animalic notes. Mushrooms, humid soil, the earth of a forest glade where I spent a lot of time as a boy, growing up in the Swiss countryside. This amazing scent of decaying wood, mushroom notes, warmth.” The Aquilaria crassa natural oudh extract used for the production is legally imported with a CITES import permit. This fragrance will be available as long as supply lasts. Andy Tauer does not ensure any stock level.

I was worried the oudh would dominate but it settles into this gorgeous smoky tobacco and rose combo after about twenty minutes. Wore it to dinner and my wife kept leaning in to ask what I had on. The morel note gives it an earthy twist I haven't smelled anywhere else.

The castoreum and myrrh give this a smoky, almost animalic depth that I wasn't expecting from a leather scent. It wears close for the first hour then blooms into this gorgeous rose and tobacco combo that lasts all day on my skin. Easily the most interesting bottle I've picked up this year.
