Description Le Barbier de Tanger was inspired by MDCI founder Claude Marchal's memory of a very special barbershop in Tangiers, Morocco. Through the skill of perfumer Anne-Sophie Benhaghel, we are transported back in time to a gentleman's barbershop circa 1950. The fragrance opens with a bracing freshness; the combination of green citrus and aromatic elements. Among the materials used in this composition are lavender, bergamot and oakmoss; these materials have been used for over a hundred years to form the basic foundation of one of the oldest fragrance families: the fougère. Le Barbier de Tanger infuses the aromatic structure with fresh, fruity notes of pineapple and apple and the green earthiness of petitgrain and galbanum on a dusty, woody base gives that the fragrance an earthy, inviting warmth.

I was worried the pineapple and apple would make this too sweet, but the galbanum and cardamom keep it sharp and green instead. Six hours in, the lavender and patchouli dry down into something that smells like a proper old-school barbershop. Wore it to dinner and got asked twice what I had on.

The galbanum and petitgrain keep this from turning into a sweet mess — it's green and sharp for the first hour before the lavender and cardamom warm it up. I get about six hours of wear, which is plenty for something this distinctive.
