Orris in Perfumery • Nez + LMR

The chapter on Tuscan orris cultivation alone was worth the price — I had no idea how much labor goes into those rhizomes before they ever reach a perfumer. It's dense in places, but the contributor list clearly knows the material inside out.

I've read a few perfume books that stay vague about materials, so the deep dive into orris and its Tuscan cultivation was exactly what I wanted. The range of contributors keeps it from feeling like one person's opinion, and the June 2020 edition has held up well.

I’m a sucker for niche perfumery books and this one dives deep into iris/orris—the Tuscan cultivation detail gives it a real sense of place. The essays are dense but readable, perfect for a slow afternoon with a coffee.
