The essays from seven different writers give you a proper deep-dive into sandalwood’s history and its modern uses, which I haven’t seen done this well anywhere else. It’s a slim volume but dense with research, perfect for anyone who actually wants to understand the raw material behind their favorite
It’s rare to find a book that treats one raw material with this much depth, and the seven-author lineup really shows. The essays on sandalwood’s cultural and olfactory history kept me turning pages, though I wish there were a few more photos to break up the dense text. Still, a fine read for anyone
The April 2020 publication date caught my eye, but the real value is how the seven contributors each bring their own lens to sandalwood—it reads like a roundtable, not a textbook. I've already dog-eared half the pages for reference.
