パロサントは南米原産の野生の木で、乳香、ミルラ、コーパルと同じ科に属します。柑橘系の仲間で、松、ミント、レモンの甘い香りが特徴です。
スペイン語で「聖なる木」という意味です。パロサントは何世紀にもわたり、インカ人やアンデスの先住民によって、浄化や清めのスピリチュアルな治療法として、また悪霊や不幸を払うために使われてきました。
